Niger is located in the Sahara Desert. Most of the people live on the edge of the desert.                This is the time for the extreme heat in Niger.  The temperature has been surging to 140 some afternoons.  Each year meningistis, and famine begins at this time of year.  The rains have stopped for almost 9 months, and everything is beginning to die for lack of water.  The people of Niger are very poor and have a hard time at this time of year.  Everyone waits for the rains to begin again around July. We live in Maradi, 500 miles east of Niamey, which is the captial.  "Doctors Without Borders" are putting up many tents in the East preparing for hundreds fo  children facing starvation.
